Read our First Aid refresher below.

We recommend the Royal Lifesaving Society SA Provide First Aid course

Phone Royal Life, 0487 604 134 to join a First Aid Class.

Skipper, You should know your first aid. The ambulance cannot swim and you may be far from help.

You are responsible for every life onboard your boat and you may be a long way from help trying to keep a person alive.

Ask crew if any are trained in First Aid.

  • If they are trained, they do it.
  • If no one onboard is a trained first aider, you do it.
  • Delegate a boat driver and YOU DO THE FIRST AID

Are you confident in your first aid?

IF NOT.- - - WHY NOT - - - ATTEND A FIRST AID COURSE

AND Read through the course content below regularly, as a refresher.

Boat Operators should read these 1st aid course notes often.

DEATH can happen in 3 minutes with no breathing.

Skipper, before you take your boat out with a group, ask them if any of them have first aid training, especially CPR, just in case.

FAST ACTION WILL SAVE A LIFE.

THE FIRST THREE MINUTES OF A PERSON NOT BREATHING = LIFE OR DEATH.

ALL BOAT OPERATORS SHOULD HAVE FIRST AID SKILLS, ESPECIALLY CPR.

  • Know who has the CPR skills in your boat and give them the 1st aid task in an emergency. ACT QUICKLY.
  • Ask your passengers if they have CPR skills.
  • IF NOT YOU MUST DO IT.
  • Prepare your boat passengers by teaching them how to steer, use the gears, and the throttle.
  • In a man overboard emergency you may need to delegate the boat controls.

Ambulance can't swim.
