Essential Knowledge assessment:

• Government Regulations
• Safety Equipment and anchoring (Rule of three)
• Petrol & fire safety (Rule of three - for fuel calculation)
• Maintaining stability (Rule of three - 3 body parts touching the boat)
• Collision regulations (avoiding collision - Always get it right)
• Distance away & keeping good all round watch
• Signs, colors, shapes, messages
• Calling for help, Marine radio, requirement to assist vessel in distress
• First Aid skills required of skipper
• Practical driving models on table top. 
• General assessment of knowledge through discussion.

13:00 start practical boat skills training, Garden Island Boat Ramp, 

Essential Skills assessment; (Maximum of 5 course members on the boat)

• Prepare boat for launching, check safety equipment. Don life jackets and check each other
• Backing a boat trailer & launching the boat
• Entering the boat (Rule of three = 3 points of contact)
• Use of boat controls
• Recognizing speed and distances away
• Boat handling skills and man overboard recovery
• Berthing the Boat
• Recovery to Boat trailer
• Certificates issued, then use phone camera on QR Code for quick feedback.

We recommend the Royal Lifesaving Society SA Provide First Aid course as they are the water rescue experts.

Capt. Bouc is a member of the society. He can arrange a club training course or an update, with special focus on first aid associated with boating situations. We can arrange a special focus program with simulation of boat casualties for your skills development.

We have several young people who have the skills to help with all the houseboating activities. They have been training as part of their tourism skills development to handle and host the large boats as part of their hospitality training. They will be happy to provide whatever help you request to make your houseboating an event to remember.  This will take the stress off you worrying about the boat and give you a safe and enjoyable holiday. 

We can arrange for them to go onboard with you as helpers for your houseboating adventure.

They can do all that is necessary for your safety, and are capable of helping with all houseboating activities including the shopping and other household chores for an enjoyable houseboating holiday.  This is a private boating holiday, not a commercial cruise. 

Although they are student volunteer helpers, you may like to reward them.

Instructing a large group of kayakers needs a Working with groups of beginner kayaker or canoers will sometimes require a fleet tow. It may be just to get home in time for food or perhaps some form of disaster. This is all part of our outdoor youth adventure leadership training.

If you are being paid in any way and help with this power boat work, (eg a class teacher helping)  you are doing commercial boat work and must have a Cox3NC ticket.

We teach the most effective ways of rafting up and towing a raft to get all clients home safely.

Escort lifeguarding may also involve multiple rescues of kayaks or sailing dinghies in the event of sudden change in weather. There is likely to be multiple casualties requiring triage and directing clients to perform help tasks. Panic is always a factor in such events. 

Calm leadership and direction is needed.
